Individual Record Requirements

All World and National records must be:

  • Completed on a Concept2 RowErg, with or without Slides, a Dynamic RowErg or a SkiErg. This equipment must sit on a level surface. Modifications to the machine that alter its performance are not allowed. Please check with Concept2 if you are unsure.
  • Single distance or timed pieces (no interval pieces).
  • Started from a non-moving flywheel.

All records (with the exception of the static indoor rower 2000 meters, see below) must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  1. Verified with a verification code obtained for the piece from the PM3, PM4 or PM5. Pieces that are uploaded directly from ErgData or your LogCard or USB flash drive via the Concept2 Utility are automatically considered verified.

    OR

  2. Rowed in public with witnesses present who can be reached for confirmation of the performance. "Public" is defined as a health club, fitness center, rowing club, indoor rowing race, trade show or regatta where Concept2 is present, school, university or special event in a public setting (for example, a fundraiser in a mall).

    OR

  3. Recorded on video. It must be one continuous video shot. It must include setting up the workout on the monitor, all the rowing and afterward, the workout displayed in the monitor Memory (not the last screen of the workout).

Note that a photo of the PM screen is not an acceptable form of verification unless the verification code is displayed on the screen as well.

2000 Meter Requirements

All static indoor rower 2000 meter record-breaking times must be rowed at a Concept2 sanctioned indoor rowing event with witnesses present. Record-breaking times for the 2000 meter distance done using a Dynamic or Slides do not need to be rowed at a sanctioned indoor rowing event, but they must be validated by one of the numbered requirements listed above.

Additional Adaptive Record Requirements

In addition to the above requirements, all adaptive records must also provide one of the following:

  • A completed Physician’s Sport Category Form

    OR

  • Proof of sport category certification from an international (FISA) or a national governing body for para rowing (Concept2 reserves the right to require this proof from FISA or a national governing body for para rowing instead of the Physician's Sport Category Form.)

Weight Requirements

In accordance with regulations from on water events and indoor rowing championships around the world, lightweights must be weighed in no earlier than two hours before their race. Records from lightweights weighed prior to two hours before their row will not be recognized.

  • Lightweight Women: <= 135lbs (61.5kg)
  • Heavyweight Women: > 135 lbs (61.6kg)
  • Lightweight Men: <= 165lbs (75kg)
  • Heavyweight Men: > 165lbs (75kg)

There is no lightweight category for adaptive records or for SkiErg Records.

Age Categories

Ultra-Distance Records
For ultra-distance records only, we recognize the following age categories: 19 and under, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, etc.

Adaptive Records
For adaptive records only, we recognize the following age categories: 18 and under, 19-49, 50 and over.

All other Records
For all other records, we recognize the following age categories: 12 and under (no weight categories), 13–14 (no weight categories), 15-16 (no weight categories), 17-18, 19–29, 30–39, 40–49, etc. in both heavyweight and lightweight categories for men and women. For 2000 meters, age categories from 50 onward are split into five-year bands: e.g. 50–54, 55–59 etc.

There are additional requirements/guidelines for the following records:

Individual Ultra-Distance Record Requirements

  1. Use a Concept2 Indoor Rower or SkiErg with Performance Monitor (PM5, PM4 or PM3). If using a PM3, we recommend that you upgrade to firmware version 88 or above.
  2. Be aware that the monitor will automatically shut down after a couple of minutes of inactivity, so unless you have someone press the Display or Change Display button to keep the PM alive, you will have to reset the monitor after rest breaks.
  3. Keep a record of your row/ski, including the start time and finish time of each session, and the meters rowed or skied in each session. Have the log signed by a witness who can verify your performance.
  4. Send us the results from your USB flash drive or LogCard in the form of a .csv file, or send your signed manual record along with a photo, if possible, and copies of or links to any publicity that your record attempt received.
  5. All new records are recognized with a special certificate of achievement. A Concept2 T-shirt and a pair of Concept2 rowing shorts is also awarded for new 24 Hours, Million Meters and Longest Continual Row or Ski records.

Additional Requirements for Specific Ultra-Distance Records

100,000 Meter Row/Ski (for time)

Setting Up Your Monitor: use Variable Intervals.
On the Main Menu, choose Select Workout > New Workout > Intervals: Variable. Set a single distance interval of 100,000 meters, with a rest interval of 0:00.

We recommend you take regular rests throughout; the flywheel can stop spinning before the target is reached; however, your final time must include the periods when the wheel is not spinning.

24 Hour Row/Ski (for distance)

Setting Up Your Monitor: use Variable Intervals.
On the Main Menu, choose Select Workout > New Workout > Intervals: Variable. Set a single time interval of 24 hours, with a rest interval of 0:00.

You must row or ski within each hour of the 24 hours in order for the attempt to qualify as a 24 hour row/ski. We recommend you take regular rests throughout; the flywheel can stop spinning.

Million Meter Row/Ski (for time)

Setting Up Your Monitor: use Variable Intervals.

On the Main Menu, choose Select Workout > New Workout > Intervals: Variable. Set one distance interval of 900,000 meters and one distance interval of 100,000 meters with a rest interval of 0:00.

We recommend you take regular rests throughout the row/ski, and the flywheel can stop spinning before the target is reached; however, your final time must include the periods when the wheel is not spinning.

Longest Continual Row/Ski (for time)

Setting Up Your Monitor: use the Just Row/Just Ski function of your monitor. The PM3, PM4 and PM5 will count up to 50,000 before it flips back to 0.

You must row at least 50 minutes of every hour in order to achieve a “continuous” record row or ski. You are permitted to take up to 10 minutes of rest per hour. We recommend that you take regular rests throughout the workout, and the flywheel can stop spinning. Any rest time taken counts toward your elapsed time.
